Conference: Emancipating Sex? Theory and Politics for Deconstructing Power Relations, 30.–31.05.2025

Kick-Off Conference of the Platform for Love, Sex, and Body-positive Research
Berlin, May 30–31, 2025, Institut für Kulturwissenschaft, HU Berlin

The event aims to reflect on human sexuality, to better understand its undergoing profound transformation characterized by political, cultural, and ethical emancipation from patriarchal structures of shame and guilt. Emancipated sexuality requires an intersectional and transformational approach to reveal the complex intersections of power and privilege within the political and cultural landscape. The only seemingly private nature of human sexuality demands a feminist, decolonial, economic, and ecological critique that recognizes the pursuit of connection, love, and fulfillment of human desire while being open to all gender identities. The event seeks interdisciplinary exchange at the intersection of the humanities and cultural studies.
